Day of Caring

Each year, the United Way of Muskegon County holds the Day of Caring, which is a large volunteer project in the community. This year the Great Lakes Naval Memorial and Museum was selected to be the recipient of the volunteer work. On September 9, 2005, volunteers will gather at 7:30am at Margaret Drake Elliot Park for a pancake breakfast served by the Lions Club and then begin their tasks for the day.

Volunteer projects for the day include cleaning, painting and polishing inside and outside of the two vessels, cleaning up the grounds, building a retaining wall, building picnic tables and benches, and possibly constructing a picnic pavilion.
